Casa Guatemala
,
Guatemala
Founded in 1977, Casa Guatemala runs an home for 300 children near Rio Dulce on the eastern Caribbean coast. This village is situated at the edge of the rain forest and provides a home for orphans from the city and also an education for children in the neighbouring villages. In Guatemala city there is also a health clinic visited by over 4000 infants every year and a home for older teenagers from the village.
Casa Guatemala receives no money from the state and so has to rely entirely on voluntary contributions. It is a constant struggle to pay for the school books, gas, medicines and wages.
