True Love Waits, KwaSiza Bantu Mission, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa
Reliable up-to-date statistics are hard to obtain but in 2002 this was the case: within five years, one South African will die of an AIDS-related illness every minute unless action is taken now. By 2005 there will be 6 million people infected with AIDS and there will be more than 1600 deaths a day in South Africa. This country has the fastest growing epidemic of any country in the world. More recent quotes include: “AIDS is now the leading cause of death in Africa, being responsible for one in five of all deaths in the continent last year, according to the United Nations. The latest survey showed that in South Africa's worst hit province - KwaZulu Natal - one in three women are infected.

Caring and Sharing supports the work of the KwaSizaBantu Mission in its attempts to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS especially among the young people in KwaZulu Natal. This is done through the scheme called ‘True Love Waits’ (TLW) which encourages youngsters to sign a pledge agreeing to abstain from sex before marriage and to be faithful within it. Over 360,000 of these pledges have now been signed. The True Love Waits team carry the message around KwaZulu Natal and our money is going towards buying a four-wheel drive vehicle.

Every June the True Love Waits team take part in an abstinence walk from Durban to Empangeni and they are joined by government ministers. In December the annual Youth Meeting at the Mission attracts over 10,000 youngsters who hear the word of God and also are taught how to care for themselves and to avoid HIV/AIDS.
