Work of Father Edwin Abanga
,
Bolgatanga, Ghana
Father Edwin Abanga is an Anglican priest who works in Bolgatanga, a town in the poor northern part of Ghana. He works among the poor, helping where the need is greatest. Deprived children are provided with food, medicine, clothing and shelter, and the dispossessed with handouts which are vital for survival. Five children who cannot be provided for by their own families live with Father Edwin and are given food, shelter, clothing, health care and education expenses - fees, uniforms etc.
In addition to this help for the vulnerable in Bolgatanga, for the past two years Caring and Sharing’s donation has been spent on treated mosquito nets. In Africa, malaria especially affects the poor . One child in Africa dies every 40 seconds from malaria. So in 2006 over 2000 mothers and children were given free treated nets, food relief assistance and other needs. The recipients selected by local health officials and communities were those who were unable to afford the cost of the net themselves. Father Edwin now hopes to take the fight further by helping to fumigate the breeding grounds for the mosquitoes.
